The HJU Thoroughbred Update has another great vignette from one of our readers!

If you would like us to feature your OTTB, email us a copyright-free photo in JPEG format, along with some information about who is in the photo, name of the horse (registered if you know it) and the photographer and we’ll include it in a Thoroughbred Update! —> email it here

Owner: Melinda Parnell

Horse: HB (Hails Bails)

Location: Missouri

From Melinda:

When my 2006 OTTB gelding, “Hails Bails”, came to me, he had been on rest for 1 1/2 years for a bowed tendon that occurred at the track.  The bow had gotten cold and he was ready to get back to work in 2010.  He has the biggest heart and tries his best at everything.  He started showing locally in 2010 and 2011, always finishing in the ribbons, even making a few foxhunting runs.

I want prospective OTTB buyers to know that a horse shouldn’t be overlooked due to an injury that potentially can be rehabilitated.  My guy hasn’t taken a lame step since he was given sufficient healing time before returning to work.

Hails Bails was foaled in Texas on Apr. 15, 2006 and is by American Champ – Hail She’s Captain by Captain Bodgit, and bred by Robert Turner. He’s listed as unraced. American Champ is a Halo grandson; Captain Bodgit is also a Halo grandson, so that makes Hails Bails classically 3 x 4 inbred to this champion son of  Hail To Reason. Other notable names in his pedigree are Herbager, TV Lark, and of course, Northern Dancer.
