Today I had the opportunity to sit down with the Ontario Junior Eventing team, who are sitting in first place after cross-country in the 1star division at NAJYRC. These girls are among the most hyped about being here representing their province. They will always be remembered as the crazy Canadians with the water guns.
The first out cross-country today on the team was Kylie Figuera and Danzig, who currently sit in 2nd place individually on a score of 49.6. Kylie was tied for 4th after dressage and wanted to thank John MacPherson who warmed up both her and teammate Haley Armstrong. After an amazing clear and fast cross-country, she is very excited headed into show jump tomorrow.
Next out was Dasha Vandaeva and Autorytet. After a great dressage test on Thursday, she had a clear cross-country ride today adding just 1.6 penalties to her dressage score. Dasha currently sits in 10th individually.
Third out for the team was Charlotte Evans and Mail Order Bride. As this is Charlotte’s first time here at NAJYRC, she mentioned that the best part about the experience is the team atmosphere. Being on a team with such supportive teammates is what is making young riders so memorable for Charlotte. (so sorry to Charlotte, as I do not have a picture of her!)
The last out for Canada was Haley Armstrong-Laframboise and Roksolana. After a fantastic dressage ride and double clear cross-country today, Haley is sitting in the bronze medal position individually. She was sure to mention the course was beautiful and rode a little tougher than she initially anticipated. Her horse recovered well and she is hoping for an uneventful jog and a clean showjump tomorrow to take home an individual medal.
The team would love to thank John MacPherson, Peter Gray, Carolyn Morshead, personal coaches, parents, grooms supporters and sponsors, including:
– Avid Equestrian, who stepped in at the last minute and provided beautiful embroidered saddle pads for the team. Owner Heather Patterson is absolutely fantastic and has a great business doing embroidered clothing for barns.
– Greenhawk, who provided the riders with amazing all-weather jackets.
Thanks so much for the Ontario Junior team for taking the time to speak to me today, and best of luck to all of you tomorrow.
(PS – my apologies for all the dressage photos. Grooming stuff meant I only got to take pictures of some of the 2star riders as I was at the finish line for the entire 1star division)
