This weekend was my first show of 2015. If you haven’t been in Wellington you’ve likely been hunkered down in a big bucket of cold and wet and snow! Just as I came home to see my fields suddenly turning green after being gone just three days, I saw many a person turn just as lively this weekend.
We all trudged in Friday or Saturday in buckets of rain! Most of my equipment was completely soaked, The light shower followed by 65-70 degree weather forecast was a lie. It’s 45 and pouring, and our attitudes matched the weather which is definitely not me! I dragged my triple dressed bubble wrapped horse out of his clean clothes so he could go flop around on course in the red mud and make me swear I’ll never own a pinto again. I was so stressed about being ill prepared and so over the crappy weather I managed to miss buckling my overgirth!
My awesome coach stepped in and did his safety check and caught it for me and we began to get me ready for the Sunday competition. Somewhere about halfway through my lesson I started remembering what spring and show season was again. I was smiling and laughing and back to myself – the happy, cheerful teammate who goes out there to have as much fun as I can find! And I notice many a competitor became the same way.
Somewhere between Saturday warm-ups and lessons and Sunday we went from muddling along to cheering and laughing! By the end of the show my little horse had fans and we were cheering on other horses. My best friends and I finally got to see each other again, and I get to see them next weekend too!
So as your snow starts to melt and the sun has made it’s longer daily stay, look around and breathe it in! It’s show season! Welcome back to the world!
