Horses are truly incredible animals. What they do for us on a daily basis is nothing short of amazing. They do not just run, jump obstacles, piaffe, run barrels or chase cows for us, they save us.
I’ve been told that horses are willing to take their human’s pain and will continue to do so as long as their human is in need, I believe this to be true. Sadness, tears, anger… all can be cured with a big neck hug and a kiss on a soft, warm nose. Equine therapy (EAT) and its effects on those with depression, anxiety, autism, down syndrome and other genetic syndromes and mental illnesses are proof of the therapeutic effects that horses have on our well-being.
Horses forgive us for our mistakes and frustrations, they do not hold grudges. They aim to please us and want nothing more than a big pat and a cookie leaving the ring. Of course, they have their off days and we do as well, but to take the bad with the good and work through the rough patches is what develops and strengthens the relationship between horse and rider that is so important. I am a firm believer that what you get out of a horse is a reflection of what you put in. If you love, respect and appreciate your horse fully, they will try their heart out for you and at the end of the day, that is really all you can ask for.
We are blessed to work with the purest of souls. Give your horse a big hug today and thank him for all that he does, he deserves it.
