Hello fellow horse people,
I’m here with a little tiny PSA.
Let’s be good to each other.
I don’t care if you have all of the money in the world and you keep your horses in the highest quality boarding facility and show at the most expensive shows.
I don’t care if you have a shed in your backyard with ramshackle fencing and you trudge through every day in your PJs and rubber boots to feed, water, muck and groom multiple times a day.
I don’t care if you’ve stopped going on vacations because you’d rather be home caring for your horses in your backyard.
I don’t care if you go on vacations and business trips multiple times a month and pay someone to keep your horse fit while you’re gone because that’s your life.
I don’t care if you ride bareback once a week just to have horse time, but otherwise your horse is mostly just a giant dog.
I don’t care if you have the highest quality show horse who is on a strict exercise and meal plan and travels to and from shows as often as possible.
I don’t care if your horse is shod or barefoot, blanketed or naked, bitted or bitless, bareback or saddled.
I don’t care if your farm is muddy or if the footing is the highest quality imported italian shredded pebbled diamond studded rubbergold.
Is your horse cared for?
Is your horse fed and watered?
Is your horse safe?
Is your horse happy?
Is your horse treated for injury and illness when necessary?
Is your horse covered in mud and happy as a pig in poo?
Is your horse blanketed, brushed, booted, and spit shined daily?
If you answered yes to all of those questions, good on you. If you answered yes to the last question, I admire your dedication. My horse is currently a haflinger/mud cross.
My point is…let’s be good to each other.
Everyone has different methods, ideologies, beliefs, ideals, and methods. As long as somebody is not abusing or mistreating their animal, shouldn’t that be what really matters to us?
Let’s be good to each other, guys. Because you have to admit we’re the only ones who get this whole “horse thing.” So let’s accept that not everyone does things the way we do things, and be open minded to the fact that the horse world is a big one. There are a million ways to do everything. 2 + 2 = 4. But that’s not the only equation to get that answer, it’s just the most popular one.
We are the only ones who understand each other and why we choose to live like this, so let’s make it a big, fat, awesome club of fantastic people who share a common interest and can learn from each other. Because we all know damn well, that there’s ALWAYS something to be learned rom everything.
Let’s play nice and have fun.
