The Classic Equestrian is a family own English tack shop that offers the top brands from all over the world. Owned by Haley Stubbart, they opened their doors in April of 2016 and have become an essential part of the West Michigan equestrian community.
“I have been riding my whole life and have had amazing opportunities to ride with some of the best trainers in the area. I went to school for Business and decided what would be better than to put that to work with my love for the equestrian sport. I learn new things every day, I meet new people every day, and I get to interact with people who have the same passion as I do, what could be better than that? !I am always on the floor helping customers because I think it is important to know whom you are supporting. Getting to know every rider that comes in my door is critical to helping them find exactly what they are looking for. ”
The Classic Equestrian specializes in hunters, jumpers, dressage, eventing, and polo. Because of their unique situation and being so involved in the local community, they offer a wide variety of products; from the beginner, young rider, to the professional or A circuit rider. Because of their deep local roots, they are able to be involved in local circuits and provide additional support and understanding to riders of all levels and walks of life.
“I am always searching for new brands to add to our 60+ brand selection. As a rider who is consistently showing it is cool to see the rapidly changing trends throughout all of the disciplines. I look for the best bang for everyone’s buck. The biggest struggle as a small business I would have to say, is the internet. It is so easy to go online and order products without even leaving your house. BUT what we have that the large box stores don’t is the personal care and knowledge. We are people who know the products, know the disciplines, and have tons of experience in recommendations and we are so passionate at making sure every horse and rider are performing the best they possibly can. I am a huge believe in quality over quantity and I want to feel proud & confident in every item that leaves our front door. I have to have a good conscious about a product to have it in the store.”
How does Haley continue to provide the best quality and give customers more bang for their buck? She accredits some of the some of the success to her ability to attend trade shows and horse shows around the country to spot the latest trends.
“Trade shows are crucial for running a business such as a tack store. Trends and styles change every season and it is important to be able to keep up. Trade shows are the best way for being able to view and touch their products all in one place. It is awesome to have all vendors under one roof working hard to provide you with the best they’ve got. I am so excited to go to AETA this winter in hopes of bringing back a glimpse of 2017 and what it has in store for the equestrian world of ALL disciplines.”
