We’re proud to introduce the five recruits who are taking on the 6 Week Fitness Challenge powered by Back on Track. Over the next six weeks, we’ll be publishing progress reports and videos from each participant, and this week we’re doing introductions. Meet our next recruit, Nicole Tidwell:

Hi, I’m Nicole Tidwell and I’m very excited to be a part of the Back on Track 6-Week Fitness Challenge.  I’m an avid rider and I ride 2-3 horses three times per week.  One of those horses is my 12-year-old Belgian Warmblood, Calvin.  He is a wonderful horse, full of personality (or orneriness) and is much more of a push ride.  We show hunters at both local shows in the 3’ and 3’ 3” and in rated shows in Adult Amateurs.

At the beginning of August I had a prophylactic double mastectomy due to a diagnosis of a BRCA 1 gene mutation.  With the BRCA 1 gene mutation the chances of getting breast cancer over my lifetime was 70% and the chances of ovarian cancer was 40%.  My doctors recommended surgery, so I opted to have the double mastectomy and in a few months I will have surgery to remove my ovaries and fallopian tubes as well.

My fitness goals for the coming weeks mainly revolve around recovery from my surgery.  My main goal is simple:  get back on Calvin!  Even though I’m not allowed to do upper body workouts or any impact cardio I am making sure that I get up and walk as much as possible.  In the next 6 weeks I want to average 12,000 steps per day on my Fitbit and strengthen and tone my legs and core.  I hope that by the end of this challenge I am fit enough to take Calvin to a show.   I’ve never been so thankful for Cal’s laziness – I can’t imagine water skiing behind a hot horse right now!

Since the surgery I have been sleeping in a recliner, due to pain and muscle tightness, so I have been using the Back on Track Mattress Overlay.  Even in the recliner, the Mattress Overlay, helps me relax and I’ve been getting much better sleep at night.  I’m really excited to hopefully transition back to my bed soon and you better believe I’ll be bringing the Mattress Overlay with me.
